This market we saw some emerging trends from spring come on full force as well as some old trends tapering off to allow for the new ones to move in. Some trends we love, some we don’t. Here is the Brenna Morgan Interiors take on what we saw, what we love and what you won’t see in our designs.
From accessories to bedding to sofas, purple is everywhere! Not the shocking amethyst or violet color you may be thinking of, but the more muted auberge, plum and mauve tones. This is the way the “millennial pink” trend has morphed to be more grown up and sophisticated.
BMI’s take: We love it! This soft and sweet tone is perfect for a relaxing bedroom or bathroom. While you won’t be seeing us upholstering a sofa in it, we do feel that soft plum and mauve are the perfect accents to a soothing and neutral palette.
Cream, beige and brown have taken over for white, gray and charcoal. The neutral hues are going warmer as a cool color palette gets pushed out the door.
BMI’s take: We never left warm tones behind! But we are so happy to now be fully on trend with our love of warm neutrals. Chocolate, ochre and cream make us so happy and you will always see our designs having a warm undertone.
Pattern on pattern on pattern and lots of color were everywhere this market. We saw many pieces fully upholstered in bold florals or graphic prints. Most of them in darker colors to create a moody vibe.
BMI’s take: We aren’t maximalists. We prefer a more restrained style of decorating that isn’t so chaotic while still allowing some pattern and color play.
The real thing and replicas are HOT this market! Distressed finishes, naturally aged items, mid-toned wood, and found objects are all the rage. So that old quilt your grandma gave you… it’s in. The set of perfectly aged brass candle sticks you found at the flea market… buy them! Antique and vintage items are the OG of sustainable design.
BMI’s take: LOVE IT! Hunting for antiques and one of a kind pieces are our favorite. We love vintage textiles and the age of old wooden furniture. We will use vintage items or recreations as much as possible.
Think chunkier stitching or stitching in contrasting colors so it is more noticeable. We saw it mostly on leather furniture but it is also apparent on accent pillows when a flange edge is used.
BMI’s take: We are split on this one. We like it in some instances but not in others. We agree on 1 thing though… it should be used sparingly.
It’s not boucle’, it’s even fluffier. Think alpaca, sheepskin and shag. We saw it on sofas, chairs and pillows.
BMI’s take: It’s great in theory. It is soft and fluffy and cozy, but it won’t stand up well to normal wear and tear. It will get matted and dirty. When it does, how do you clean it effectively? I think we will pass. We will leave the fur to our furry family members!
All in all, Fall Market 2023 was a blast. Trends were readily apparent and we are so excited to bring many of them into our designs and into your home.
