And guess what… they aren’t all about tile and plumbing fixtures.  Creating a luxurious space is about how you live in it and how it makes you feel.  Your bathroom should be no different than any other space in your home.  It should be a sanctuary and a place that you love!

Make your bathroom relaxing.  Whether you are male or female, you spend a lot of time in your bathroom.  In most cases, you start your day there and you end your day there.  You are in and out of it all day.  It shouldn’t be a place you hate being in.  In order to do this, I recommend decorating it in matching tones.  This way nothing is too jarring to the eye or the senses.  Marble is always a wonderful stone to use in a bathroom.  It is soft to the touch, has wonderful muted color and has color in it that you can match with other tiles.  I recommend against using bright colors in a bathroom (except powder rooms).  Softer tones allow for a more luxurious and relaxing space.

Lighting is very important.  Natural light is essential in creating a luxurious bathroom.  Seeing the sunlight helps one to wake up in the morning.  If you wear makeup, it is the best light to apply it in.  Having a window in the bathroom is wonderful.  If you need privacy, look for a window that has a built in privacy screen that can be opened and closed with the touch of a button.  

On the flip side, having dim light in the evening allows for relaxation during your wind down rituals.  Whether you take a bath before bed or just wash your face and brush your teeth, you definitely have a nighttime ritual.  Make sure all light fixtures are on a dimmer so you can adjust it as needed.  And use beautiful light fixtures at that!  Don’t just plan for utility, make it gorgeous.

Keep your bathroom clutter free.  When choosing a vanity or deciding whether or not to add more built in storage, make sure you know yourself.  If you keep a lot of product or need your linens nearby, make sure you build for that storage.  Containing all of your personal items in your bathroom is essential for luxury.  No clutter on the countertops makes for a much more relaxing space.

Make your bathroom smell amazing.  If you have a favorite scent, bring in candles or room spray with that scent.  Spray your linens with linen spray.  Just walking in and taking a deep breath could instantly relax you if it is one of your favorite scents.  If it is a floral scent, buy the real flowers and put them in your bathroom.  Imagine a spa and recreate the same experience.

Linens are everything when it comes to luxury.  Buy the best towels you can and a matching robe.  Wrap yourself in luxury every time you shower or bathe.  It will feel exquisite.
