There are a lot of questions about the design process, the interior design business and the inner workings of the client/designer relationship. Pretty much all of our questions revolve around money. It is true, interior design is expensive, but what you are investing in is your home. It’s the place where you spend the most time, where you raise your family, where you find respite from the outside world. Shouldn’t you invest in it? We get asked many questions, but here are our top 5.
- What do you charge? Every designer you ask this question to will give you a different answer. There is no industry standard. At Brenna Morgan Interiors, we use simple math to calculate a flat fee for each project.
- Where can I save on my budget? There is nothing worse than an unfinished space in the design world. As designers, we want to take every project over the finish line and leave a client with their dream space. However, we know that sometimes circumstances dictate that we save instead of splurge. The easiest way to save is on items that can be added over time like accessories and art. These can be purchased bit by bit throughout your travels or as finances allow. It can be collected and curated, little by little, in order to create a space that is uniquely you.
- Which color white paint should I use? Contrary to popular belief, there is not a “one size fits all” white paint color. Even if I tell you a color, it may not look right in your home. My advice is to sample 2 or 3 in different areas and look at them at different times of day, in different lighting. White paint can take on the tone of influences like what’s going on outside the windows or what color your trim is or even what color the paint underneath is! (Hint: primer is important!). Some white paint colors that I have had great luck with are Origami White by Sherwin Williams, Swiss Coffee by Benjamin Moore and Cotton by Sherwin Williams.
- What is involved in the design process? There is so much involved in the design process that it’s hard to put into a short paragraph! We like to break our process down into 3 parts: preliminary design, final design and order/install. Preliminary design is our brainstorming, measurement taking, drawing and scheming time. Final design is where we refine everything down to exactly what the client wants and needs. Order and install is exactly that; ordering products and installing furniture, fixtures and finishes.
- Do you get a designer discount and will you share it with me? At Brenna Morgan Interiors, we do our best to ensure that you are not paying more for your items than MSRP. We have cultivated strong relationships with our vendors in order to get quality items at a fair price. You don’t ask RH to sell you a sofa at their cost do you? Because they wouldn’t! Furniture is a business and we would like to stay in business 😉
